Julien Discrit is a French visual artist. His work focuses on physical or biological processes, through their technical capacity to generate forms. Using a wide variety of techniques and materials, his work is equally inspired by geomorphology and neuroscience. His works can be seen as imprints that evoke both collective and personal memory, an experience of time within a world in constant metamorphosis. He has participated in many solo and group exhibitions. His work was notably shown in 2011 in the exhibition Sublime, les tremblements du monde at the Centre Pompidou-Metz, at La Biennale de Lyon in 2011 and in 2017 and is part of numerous public and private collections.

For OFFSCREEN, he exhibits a new series of works entitled Edited Memories. The project, conceived as an ensemble, is based on “reminiscence therapy”, a method for people suffering from memory disorders, defined by the use of objects or environments that can stimulate memories that are still present. One such immersive system is at the heart of the installation Forever Reverb, 2023. Made up of wooden walls such as those used in cinema set, it simulates the space of an art gallery. A film, that has been shot by the artist in the USA, is played on one of these walls. The film depicts everyday life in a Memory Care Center, a gigantic set recreating the 1950s, where people, most of them suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, evolve. The installation is itself the setting for a hypothetical future, the film a vestige of the past, a distorted echo, like an endless reverberation. Trouble, 2023, presents an impossible reflection. Inspired by a medical device, the work presents a mirror, obtained through a molding process, whose reflective surface is here neutralized. Finally, a series of scattered colored discs complete the installation. These discs, which also have the characteristics of therapeutic material for brain stimulation, are covered with strange patterns etched into the material, like recordings of lost memories.

Founded in 2016 in Paris (Le Marais), the Galerie Anne-Sarah Bénichou represents 14 artists of different generations, French and foreign, emerging and confirmed. The great diversity of practices and origins of these artists contributes to promoting individualities with a singular view of the world, and to instituting a dialogue between different eras and varied art forms (painting, photography, sculpture, performance, installation, and drawing). Each exhibition seeks to question the sensibility of the world, and more specifically the place and form of contemporary art in our society. For the past seven years, the gallery has found its place on the Parisian scene, among collectors and art professionals, by pursuing a single goal: a commitment to culture, the arts and artists. The gallery also pursues a publishing activity by regularly producing catalogs and books on its artists. Numerous academics, critics and curators participate in these initiatives and provide a detailed overview of the artists’ work. The gallery participates in numerous fairs in France and abroad: FIAC, Artissima, Independent, Paris Photo, Arco Madrid, Art Dubai, Art Genève, Paréidolie, Beirut Art Fair,
etc.
